Secrets
I've tried to control the words that come out of my pen and the art that comes out of my heart but now I realize tis' a silly thing I attempt. This piece began life as a series of photographs I took of a nearby historic building and grounds. I started collaging some of the photos mixed with flowers snipped from a Martha Stewart magazine, using a cigar box as a base. What I didn't realize is while I thought I was just shooting some random photos with my new camera, my heart was actually remembering a story from a friend. Many years ago, a priest buried her twins on this property. No one knew - there is no marker to remember them - only their mother's story. As I walked the grounds, I remembered and honored the ways their mother has changed me for the better. She is a peaceful, open and loving person, and I strive to grow in my grief as she has.
In her honor and in remembrance of her daughters, came this small shrine. The photos are printed off my inkjet printer and adhered with matte medium. Some were glued to 1/4" foam core for depth. Yes, the Madonna has two babies in her arms...
